THE LONGEST JOHNS

Instagram | Spotify | Website

Having met and bonded over sea shanties across a kitchen table in their native Bristol a decade ago, The Longest Johns – Jonathan ‘JD’ Darley, Andy Yates and Robbie Sattin – have reimagined many of folk's classic songs while adding their own unique style of song writing to the melting pot to keep the flame of the tradition alive. In doing so, they have graced the stages of international folk festivals and toured the UK, Europe and North America.

Their 5th full studio album “Voyage” is set to release in February 2024. Check out the Kickstarter campaign for all things “Voyage”.

And in February the band set off on The Voyage Tour, a three-month, no-stone-unturned circuit of Europe and the UK with a further month of dates to follow in the USA and Canada.

By any standard The Longest Johns have enjoyed a whirlwind of a journey these last ten years. As well as eight full length albums, they've released four EPs and nine singles, including the 2021 version of 'Wellerman' that began a sea shanty craze on social media as a 150-year-old folk song from New Zealand became a worldwide viral sensation, sweeping the group to the #2 berth on the US Spotify Viral Chart and #5 Global.

Earlier this year they released The Longest Pony with 'brothers in song' the Catalán folk group El Pony Pisador, to celebrate English and Latin maritime traditions and the two groups' long-standing mutual admiration.

And with more than 500 million streams across all platforms, over half a million YouTube subscribers and some 200,000 hours watched on Twitch, The Longest Johns enjoy a steadfast presence in the digital world.

Originally hailing from the vibrant musical melting pot of Dublin, Ireland, Colm R. McGuinness is a multi-talented singer, performer, instrumentalist, composer, producer and content creator.

Having grown-up as a violinist and guitarist, Colm’s natural affinity for music has seen him evolve into a self-sufficient producer, traversing genres such as traditional Irish folk, Nordic metal, historic sea shanties and contemporary rock, whilst adding a plethora of instruments into his creative arsenal, not to mention an incredibly broad vocal range.

Since relocating to Los Angeles in the early 2020’s, McGuinness has self-released a number of LPs, including his latest effort, ‘The Colm Before The Storm’ (2023), which features collaborations with fellow shanty artists Staton Watkins, Seán Dagher and Nils Brown.

Aside from producing viral covers (his version of Hoist The Colours from Pirates of The Caribbean has amassed in excess of 27 million YouTube views), Colm’s output has since branched into scoring soundtracks for original fantasy D&D web series’ such as Critical Role and Candela Obscura.

This year, in 2024, Colm takes his formidable instrumental skills and jaw dropping vocal ability on the road, touring the U.S for the very first time. Follow Colm online for updates.
